“It’s the truth, even if it never happened” -Tim O’Brien
This is a quote from a book that I read in high school. It is called The Things They Carried and this quote has become one of the things I carry. You see, there are two things you have to know about me before you dive into this blog: 1) I am a writer, and 2) I am a drama queen. I happen to think being the second is what makes me good at the first, but you are welcome to disagree.
I will never lie intentionally on this blog, the facts are all here and my stories are my honest-to-God memories and opinions. However, as with most things in life, if you were to ask everyone else who was there you would probably get multiple versions. It matters to me that I tell the emotional truth of a situation. If I make you laugh or cry about something that is real to me I feel we have made a connection, and THAT is what PrettyRx is about.
Once when I was suffering a particularly nasty depression my mom said to me, “I know its hard, but if you do nothing else today, at least get up and put your face on”. That is what PrettyRx is to me. A place to start. Somewhere I can jump off from. The thing that’s right in front of me, that I can tangibly grab onto, to find the strength/motivation/inspiration to move on to the next thing. And the next, and the next until-hopefully-one day I have a job, feel happy, and am out of bed for good.
